Today I want to talk about what is going on with the economy. As many of you have noticed, a lot of people are being laid-off from their jobs and are having a hard time finding new jobs.

I want to especially communicate with those who are involved in the technical industry. If you are not involved in the technical industry, this is fine.

Allow me to share with you my story. I am a software developer. I have been a software developer for over 20 years. I have had a pretty successful career. I, too, went through a number of downsizings. I lost my home, my car, and I found myself having to start my life all over again at the age of 42.

The reason I was experiencing such a difficult time in recovering from these downsizings is because I was downsized one job after another and after each downsizing, it took me 4-6 months to find another job. This was very unusual for me because, early in my career, I was able to find a job within a week.

I had quite a lot of funds set aside, but I was quickly going through the my funds. The downsizings occurred one after another and the amount of time it took me to find a job greatly decreased my savings until I had very little left.

After this experience, I had to move back in with my mom. At 42, this was not easy to do; especially since I had been on my own since I was 18 years old. But, this was something I was forced to do.

After moving in with my mother, I made the decision that I no longer wanted to work for anybody else again. I wanted more control over my life.

As most people involved in the technical industry know, we work a lot of hours; long hours. I know I spent more hours at my job than I did at my home. Although I made good money, I had very little time to enjoy it and spend time doing things I wanted to do. I often refer to situations like this as “trading time for money”.

I knew I wanted to make some changes in my life. I wanted a better quality of life. I wanted to spend more time with my family. I also wanted to spend more time doing things I enjoy doing like playing my guitars, hanging out at the beach, traveling, and more. But, during much of my career, I rarely had any time to do any of these activities. Instead, I spent most of my time working.

When I made the decision to start working for myself, I started looking for a business opportunity. I did not know anything about the home business industry. About, almost six years ago, I discovered my first home business with whom I was involved for almost four years.

One of the things I did not know is the importance of marketing. Now, since I am a “computer geek” so to speak, I knew that I did not want a brick and mortar type business.

I failed in my first home business. I believe the failure was due to the fact that I was not taught properly how to market my business. My sponsor taught me how to put out fliers, pass out business cards, talk to my family and friends and other old-fashioned methods. These methods did not work for me. I am sort of an introvert. I am not an outgoing, people person.

A year ago, I made the decision t use the internet to market my business. This is what I am doing now.

I want to share my knowledge and help those, especially those who have either been laid-off or are about to be laid-off. I know, from my own experience, being laid-off is not fun. In fact each time I was laid-off, I cried.

Those individuals, who are involved in the technical industry, have the computer skills that can be used to help them attain success much more quickly using the online marketing methods. Even if you don’t have the technical skills, these marketing skills can still be learned.
